How to Care for Your Candles: Prolong Their Life and Maximize Your Experience

At Summer Candle Co, we pride ourselves on crafting beautiful, eco-friendly soy wax candles using only high-quality ingredients. To ensure you get the most out of your candles, it’s important to take proper care of them. Here are some essential tips to extend the life of your candles and maintain a clean, safe burn every time.

1. Trim the Wick

Before lighting your candle, always trim the wick to about ¼ inch. This helps prevent excess smoke and soot, creating a cleaner burn and keeping the flame from getting too large. A trimmed wick also prevents "mushrooming," which can lead to uneven burning.

2. Let the Wax Pool

On the first burn, allow the melted wax to reach the edges of the container before extinguishing the flame. This helps prevent tunneling, which occurs when the wax only melts down the middle, leaving unused wax on the sides. A full melt pool ensures an even burn throughout the life of your candle.

3. Avoid Drafts

Burn your candle in a location free of drafts to prevent uneven burning, flickering, and soot buildup. Wind or air movement can cause the flame to dance, leading to inconsistent melting and a shorter candle life.

4. Burn for the Right Length of Time

Soy wax candles burn longer than many other wax types, but it’s important not to leave them burning too long. We recommend burning your candle for 2-4 hours at a time. Burning for shorter periods can lead to tunneling, while longer periods can overheat the candle and cause excessive soot.

5. Keep It Clean

To maintain a clean burn, periodically check your candle for any debris such as wick trimmings or dust. Removing these particles will help the flame burn evenly and safely.

6. Store Properly

When not in use, store your candle in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Heat and sunlight can cause the wax to soften or melt, affecting the fragrance and the overall quality of your candle.

7. Know When to Stop Burning

For safety, discontinue burning your candle when about ¼ inch of wax remains at the bottom of the container. This prevents the glass from overheating and potentially cracking.

By following these simple care tips, you can ensure your soy wax candles burn beautifully and last as long as possible. Caring for your candles not only enhances your experience but also protects the integrity of the high-quality materials we use in every product.

Enjoy your candles, and let their glow and scent fill your home!
